Mission = Healing June 28, 2011

Meetings are pretty worthless these days. They appear to be places where people who don't take care of patients spend their time. So, they (these folks) need to have more meetings to justify their job, aka existence and pay. My solution to that problem is simple ... No clinical work, no administrative work = no teaching work = no pay & no clinical work = no job. Minimum clinical work for health care providers should be 20% of total hours worked.
Most of the stuff discussed in our meeting today could have been done by computers with a little human help. I saw at least three and as many as 10 people at this early morning meeting who virtually NEVER take care of patients. Maybe they should work elsewhere, or in some other business?

  2. Made it through the day. Very busy. All patients tucked in. Time for some rest.

  3. It takes 30 - 60 minutes on average to develop and execute a care plan for each critically ill patient we have in the ICU ... sometimes more and sometimes less. And then, there are the exceptions, obstacles, distractions, noises, failures, and all sorts of things that get in the way of optimal patient care. Lately, more often than not, it is a family member who is disruptive to the care & puts the team into a tizzy. Yesterday was one of those days.
